Well, that was very satisfying. CofC came out strong from the beginning, the atmosphere was fantastic and we remain undefeated in the conference. Below are some rapid reactions:
- Willis Hall came out of the gates with a vengeance. He attacked the basket, sucked up rebounds like he was Kevin Love and played tough defense on Citadel's bigs
- Goudelock started off a little slow but turned things around after Lawrence fed him for a vicious dunk on a 2-on-1. He finished with nearly 30 points in just 32 minutes and was able to drive and kick out the ball to wide open Wiggins and Monroe all game.
- The FG% were very similar for both teams (47.2% for El Cid and 48.4% for the Cougs) but those numbers are severely skewed. Bobby took all the starters out with 5 minutes left in the game and the second stringers jacked up some ill advised shots. They also allowed the Bulldogs to get some easy looks. The percentage for Citadel is also misleading because they only attempted 9 threes the entire game. The Cougars attempted a whopping 31, making 13.
- Zach Urbanus, who killed us last year, was almost a complete non-factor. He played 40 minutes but only finished with 3 points on 1-6 shooting.
- We finally got a look at the freshman for an extended period. A more in depth analysis is still to come, but Jordan Scott looks to be the most likely to contribute. James Carlton and Nori Johnson also looked like they were just getting over their nerves when the final horn sounded.
