Two different men, from totally different backgrounds, sharing the Holy City and trying to leave their mark on newly acquired teams. Strange as it sounds, Coach Wojcik and Coach Driesell's paths first crossed nearly 30 years ago and the two have been close friends since. If you don't know the whole story I would recommend reading Jeff Hartshell's piece in todays P&C.
But despite the new names on the bench this matchup is still CofC vs Citadel. Crosstown vs Downtown. Cooper vs Ashely. Knobs vs whatever it is Citadel guys call CofC kids. The fate of Berry Residence Hall is on the line tonight at McKalister Field House.
Even though El Cid is struggling on the year (and I mean really struggling), if there's one game they're gonna put it all on the line for it's their home contest against The College. The Bulldogs have an impressive freshman named Matt Van Scyoc on the wing who is a knockdown shooter. He's got 39 points in his last two games and he's someone the Cougars are not used to accounting for.
Then there's the real bulldog of the team: Mike Groselle. My pre-season pick for the All-SoCon team, Groselle has cooled off a bit after a strong start to the season. The way he goes is the way the Citadel team goes, which is why they have lost 10 straight heading into tonight. Groselle is the one guy you must check for Citadel to struggle. He's the heart and soul of their team. Baru will have his hands full defensively. Luckily there has been times where he's struggled against the Cougars.
If the Cougars bring 75% of what they showed at home against Chattanooga it's going to be a long day for the Bulldogs. It'll be a tough one tonight but I expect the Cougars to keep that undefeated road streak alive just up the street. Go Cougars!
