Andrew Goudelock NBA Draft Chatter

Tommy Braswell of the P&C wrote a great article the other day detailing all the specifics of Drew's path to the NBA Draft on June 23. The article catches up with everything CofC's all-time leading scorer has been doing since the season ended to better his draft stock.

We knew that a mid-major player like Drew would have to catch some breaks in order to earn a spot on the NBA radar and so far the results have been mixed. An appearance by the Cougars in the NCAA Tournament certainly would have helped because ESPN and the sports media in general love a good Cinderella story. A 30 point game or two by Goudelock certainly would have given him national praise. On the other hand Drew's performance at the Final Four festivities, as well as his relatively strong PIT run, have definitely helped his stock grow.

In Braswell's article, Drew mentions the mass pre-draft workout being put on by the New Jersey Nets. If you're too lazy to follow the link to the article, it's a chance for draft prospects to show what they've got in front of scouts from all 30 NBA teams. Normally teams will host their own workouts with a dozen or so prospects, but the looming NBA lockout has messed that up. Drew goes on to say "if I get invited to one of those [workouts] there's a good chance of getting drafted."

If you've been following Drew's weekly draft diary (wish I would've asked him to do one) on thehoopsreport.com, you'll see that he did in fact get invited to the Nets workout. Looking at the other prospects who will be in attendance, Goudelock has a good chance of making an impact. In 5-on-5 drills, I can see Drew getting his points against Diebler, Dunn and Freeman. His defensive liabilities also may be veiled because of who he'll have to guard. With the exception of maybe Liggins and Thomas, not too many of those guards will make Drew look bad.

I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on the draft process leading up to june 23, so stay tuned for more updates on Drew Goudelock.

UPDATE: Looks like the New Jersey workout went well. Drew was one of the players that stood out in the eyes of NBA scouts and continued to impress with his outside shooting and ball handling. He performed well in drills, including a first overall time in the baseline sprint. Goudelock met with a handful of teams in New Jersey and is expected to meet with a few more (including the San Antonio Spurs and OKC Thunder) in the coming week.
